PRACTICAL USE OF GMDSS

Target Audience

This is a simulator-based course aimed at anyone needing to gain knowledge and skills in the practical operation of Sailor 6000 GMDSS equipment: VHF and MF/HF DSC radios, Inmarsat-C, Radiotelex, Navtex, AIS, EPIRB, SART and SSAS, including testing and correct emergency communication procedures.

Course Content

On successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of current marine radiocommunication systems and equipment
  • Demonstrate practical experience of using radio equipment in emergency situations
  • Demonstrate hands-on familiarization with current GMDSS equipment and systems
  • Correctly complete radio logs
  • Carry out regular equipment test
  • Inspect and maintain emergency batteries

Deck Officers holding a current COC and a GMDSS GOC

Classroom, GMDSS Simulator 

Teaching Method

Classroom lectures, videos and case studies, review of investigation reports.

Guidelines

STCW A-IV/2, radio regulations, IMO Model Course 1.25.

Course Duration

2 days.

Assessment

Theoretical exam.

Certification

Attendance certificate upon successful completion of tests and exercises.
